Fantastic cob building course with unemployed people in Dorset

We had one of our most rewarding cob building experiences yet working with a group of inspiring people at the end of 2020 to teach them how to build with cob. Everyone on the course was unemployed and thanks to an ESFA Community Training grant we were able to offer everyone a free place on the course.

It was a fantastic group of people who all brought a vast range of experience to the course which they shared with everyone. We ran the course at Monkton Wyld Court in Dorset as a stipulation of the grant was that the course had to be run in Dorset (our current cob training site is just over the border by a few hundred yards into East Devon!).

Course participants have gone on to find work, are volunteering, some are doing more training and others are hopefully coming to work with us on our own project here in Devon soon. Most importantly though we found that everyone felt more confident and more buoyant at the end of the course – at the very least it was a really unique, outdoor, hands on, sociable and fun experience for us all.

It was such a success we have applied for more funding in 2020 so keeping everything crossed we are lucky enough to be awarded the grant again – it would be wonderful to give more unemployed people on Dorset a life changing 4 days of cob building.
