A giant cob house will be featured on Grand Designs Channel 4 at the end of this month. The cob house called Dingle Dell is built by cob builder Kevin McCabe.
The Grand Designs episode is re-visiting the huge cob house he built for himself in East Devon.
It is definitely worth a watch if you are interested in building your own cob house. Kevin McCabe uses less traditional and less sustainable methods than us sine he used concrete in his foundations. In contrast we teach people to use limecrete as cob houses need to breath and moisture must be allowed to escape. Using lime is also kinder on the environment. Natural building requires natural products throughout so the building can work as it should.
The cob house on Grand Designs is a fantastic project though as it is helping spread the benefits of cob even further. If you would like to learn how to build your own cob house then come and join us on one of our 4 day cob house building courses in 2019.
We are based on the Devon/ Dorset border a short walk from the beach at Lyme Regis. We have designed what we believe is the most comprehensive and useful cob building course there is and we will give you the practical skills and theory you need to go away after 4 days and start building your own cob house dream. We cover everything from foundations and roofs, to windows, door, Building Regulations and Planning Permission.
